External laws don’t change people’s hearts. This is why legalistic religion never has positive results. Legalism only feeds a person’s pride and ego, and it never produces a change of heart from the inside out.
Only a personal, dynamic relationship by faith in Christ alone can change a person’s rebellious heart and produce change from the inside out. Religion is a person’s attempt to earn God’s love and forgiveness through keeping external religious laws. Christianity is God reaching down to sinful humans so that we might come to faith in the Person and work of Christ and enter into a living relationship with Jesus.
